The first theme is loyalty. When the Murry couples were not separated yet, they would write letters each day to keep in touch. They are loyal to each other. At the beginning of the story, Mrs. Murry did not know her husband, Mr. Murry was trapped in Camazotz. She was loyal to her husband. She still took good care of her children.
