When it comes to the education of children, parents usually enroll their children in mainstream schools and in some cases private schools. However, there are a growing number of parents who feel they can offer their children a better education than the public or private school systems. These parents are joining the growing trend of families who have opted to home school their children. According to Dr. Brian Ray, president of the National Home Education Research Institute, "Home education has constantly grown over the last two decades. The growth rate is 7% to 15% per year. There were approximately 1.5 to 1.9 million children (grades k-12) home educated in the United States during the 2000-2001 school year". ("Home Schooling Research," pars. 1). The question we need to address is, "why home school?) Of course the obvious answer to this question is that many parents realize (that for what ever reason) their child or children need specialized attention.

English: The Old School Now a private home.In addition to special attention, we all know that children learn at different levels and home schooling allows kids to have constant direct contact with their educators; therefore these kids will be allowed to excel in their strong areas and better overcome the obstacles in their weaker areas. In the long run, home-schooled children do as well or better than public school children. As a recent research study, done by Dr. Brian Ray, shows: "On average, home schooler's outperformed their public school peers on standard achievement tests by 30 to 37 percentile points across the board on all subjects."("Home Schooling Achievement," pars. 1). To say the least, this is incredible data. As for college enrollment of home schooled children, it rates about the same as public schools, however, (as expected) home schooled children are scoring higher on college entrance exams,
Interesting
I found this paper to be rather interesting and very informative. I never really knew that homeschooled children had better test scores. I went to a public school my whole life and this was very interesting. I may look more into this now.
