How far do you agree the depression was the main reason Hitler came to power.

The great depression was a main reason for Hitler coming to power but it wasn't the full reason for it, other reasons that were in favour of Hitler were events such as Hitler's personality and propaganda.

The great depression was a main reason for Hitler coming chancellor because it gave Hitler something to change at the time of the great depression; people wanted change because it was such a hard time for everyone. If Hitler was doing something that everyone wanted then he is going to become popular. Hitler promised bread and work and because no one had any money or shelter people wanted this, this was all the plan of Hitler.

Hitler introduced the `25 point plan` program which was very attractive to those most vulnerable to the depression, the unemployed, the elderly and middle classes.

People lost confidence in the democratic system and turned towards the extremist political parties such as the Communists and Nazis during the depression. Because these points and ideas were so good and popular, the Nazis got 107 seats in 1930 and in 1932they nearly got 200. This was very good for Hitler and the rest of Germany at this point.

The great depression wasn't the only reason for Hitler being chancellor, his personality and propaganda. His speeches were very motivational which helped him a lot, a quote from one of his closes friends said 'he shouts at anything even though you are standing right next to him.' As a character himself he was never out of form, he always had his shirt tucked in, always was shaven and his hair was back.
