In a society as complex as ours; it is essential that we have strong, outspoken leaders that will help improve our lives. Leaders need to be influential, and they need to be able to communicate well with others. Without the ability to get along and talk with others, it will not be possible to influence and direct others in the right direction. These are just some of the qualities that the leaders we visited at Central American Resource Center (CARECEN), Mama's Hot Tamales Café and the Eco-Village had. I was very impressed with the amount of dedication and passion that these leaders had for the members of their community. We as members of this society should take the time to learn from these leaders so that we may also get involved in the empowerment of our community.

Mario from Carecen is one of the many leaders in the City of Los Angeles that dedicates his time to provide essential resources for the families of the Pico Union and Koreatown communities.

Carecen provides many different services to these families; like, free after school programs for youths, provides no-fee representation and consultation for immigration court hearings, free parenting classes, and they help petition lawmakers on behalf on the community. However, it is disappointing to know that someone working for a good has to run into so many barriers in order to keep their organization on its feet. Sadly our government does not provide these organizations with much help, unless you are a faith-based organization; you can expect to be limited in what you get. Still I am glad to hear that they're still people that believe in the social justice of others and are willing to help individuals financially in order to help them.
