Thomas cook specialise's in 'Luxury and Package holidays deals' and also offer additional services such as currency exchanges and insurances. Starting out in 1841 former Baptist Thomas Cook began by organising excursions for the upper class and Sunday school children by rail, which then moved forward to the first "air package" holiday in the mid 1900's.

Thomas cook is one of four leading travel agents, with its main high street competitor being Thomson Holidays (TUI); however there are many others in the market such as First Choice and Virgin Holidays. Thomson holidays have reported to have sold over 5 million holidays last year, however with the likes of internet distributors and low cost airlines becoming more appealing to consumers, how long can travel agents survive?
