How does one run a small businesses or a corporation? What makes a company run smoothly? Well from bottom to the top of the chain people within a business have to work together in order to make a company run. The main component of making a company run would be management. Now management is the person or persons controlling and directing the affairs of a business and could also be the act or manner of managing; handling, direction, or control (Dictionary.com). It takes management to have the expertise to have a company up and running smoothly. Within any company a business has to be run like a well oiled machine. Many people have their own way of trying to run a business but for the most part most go by the business model of the components of what makes up management. There are four components of management which are planning, organizing, leading, and controlling.

This can be defined and explained on how these primary functions make management run the way it does by using the example of the workplace at Verizon.

The planning aspect in management can be described as putting a specific purpose or project together. In this section there is a lot of analyzing and research done on what management is going to do as far as how the company will be ran. The management team at Verizon takes time out to plan different projects and agendas that would best help towards the success of the company. This takes long hours of strategic planning and brainstorming. There is a need to know what the purpose of the company is and the objective or goal that management wants to try to meet.
