Gap Inc. was founded in 1969 by Donald and Doris Fisher in San Francisco, California. They had started the company with a single store and a handful of employees to launch their operations. Today, Gap Inc. is an international company with almost 165,000 employees supporting the company's three distinct brands--Gap, Banana Republic, and Old Navy. Gap Inc. operates more than 4,200 stores worldwide. Their stores are located in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Japan, and Germany.
