Humans were told that only God can create organisms, but the Human Genome Project proves nature wrong. Although humans cannot fully create organisms, they have come close enough to get a glimpse of the base and foundation of humanity. Humans are now reaching into the scientific world to create a better environment for the whole race. By doing this research I have found that there are many pros about the human genome project but also have many risks and cons. Now, I am going to talk about pros and cons about the human Genome project.

The Human Genome Project was a thirteen-year effort that was coordinated by the Department of Energy and the National Institutes of Health. The Genome project was originally planned to last 15 years, but due to the increases in technological advances the completion date was changed from 2005 to 2003. Some of the goals of this project are to understand the complexity of the human genes.

Basically, it was to identify all the 30,000 genes in the human DNA and determine the sequences of the 3 billion chemical base pairs that make up human DNA. Early in 2001 scientists announced the completion of the mapping of the human genome, indicating that they had identified an estimated 30,000 genes, constituting just 1% of the total human DNA. Due to the differences in data, some believe that there could be as much as 40,000 human genes. Other experts, however, believe that final total of identifiable human genes will be significantly lower than 30,000. (Human, 1) Although some believe that it is wrong to go against the law of nature, there are many factors of the Human Genome Project that can benefit the human race as a whole.

First of all, Genetic and acquired diseases such as cancer and...
