I have examined the background of UTC and Carrier focusing on their global strategy. First I have looked at UTC strategy and then at Carrier's as a part of UTC. The focus is on Toshiba Carrier and Carrier China. Second, analyze the results of the global strategy on the financials for Carrier. Lastly, a supported opinion of why the company should continue their current global strategy.

United Technologies Corporation has a large variety of high technology products and support services that they provide to the building systems and aerospace industries. United Technologies Corporation (UTC) is a leader in global industry innovation. They are headquartered in Hartford, Connecticut. UTC operates in more than 180 countries around the world. Its operations are classified into five segments: Otis (Escalator & Elevator), Pratt & Whitney and flight systems (Aircraft Engines & helicopters), and Chubb (Security and fire protection). UTC 2003 Revenues were $31 billion and they employ 205,700 people (Annual Report, 2003).

UTC president is George David and his current salary is 4.3 million.

Carrier is a subsidiary of diversified manufacturer United Technologies Corporation. Willis H. Carrier invented the basics of modern air condition in 1902. Carrier has been the world leader in the manufacture and sale of heating, ventilating and air conditioning, HVAC systems and products. "Willis and six engineers formed the Carrier Engineering Corporation in 1915 with a starting capital of $35000 (1995 Sales topped $5 billion)" (Bellis, p.1). Carrier is headquartered in Farmington, Connecticut. Carrier operates in more than 172 countries around the world.
