What Got Me Think

One of the things that got me thinking while in health is how much fat and calories I get into my body by eating fast food everyday. After all just a regular hamburger and a regular vanilla shake already ads up to 21 grams of fat and 635 calories. After learning about some of this in class I checked it out on the Internet and found out that each day in the United States, about 200,000 people are sickened by food borne pathogens (often found in ground beef which is used in hamburgers). Of those who get sick, 900 are hospitalized, and 14 die annually. So after finding out what goes into the fast food that I usually eat I changed my mind about going to McDonalds.

Learning that exercise can help me live longer and keep me in good shape really got me thinking of how much I should do.

Not only does exercise reduces stress, but it also controls weight and blood pressure. Exercise also reduces the risk of CHD and certain cancers. Of finding out how much effect exercise can have on my life I was thinking about doing 30 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity at least 4 or 5 days a week.

Finding out that Cardio vascular disease is a number one killer in America and that it kills more that 2,500 people everyday got me thinking of the risk factors that can contribute to cardio vascular disease. One of those risk factors is tobacco use, since smokers have twice the risk for heart attack of nonsmokers. Nearly one-fifth of all deaths from cardiovascular disease are smoking-related. Also people who are not physically active have twice the risk for heart disease of those who are active. Poor nutrition also has...
