How does the narrator change throughout "
From the beginning of the story, the narrator (who is the main character) gives us a glimpse of what he was like during that night. In the first paragraph, the narrator indicates that the he is someone bad, a bad ass. This can be seen from quotes such as "We were dangerous characters then…we were bad". He also shows how bad he is in terms of appearance, "we wore torn up leather jackets, slouched around with toothpicks in our mouths". The narrator and his gang, Dig by and Jeff, did anything they could to get themselves high, from sniffing glue to "what somebody claimed was cocaine". He then describes his adolescence or pre-adulthood as merely "a time when courtesy and winning ways went out of style" and that "…it was good to be bad", like giving an excuse for his own wrongs.
