Greek mythology had become fully developed by about the 700s BC.

4. Hades parents were Cronus and Rhea. He gained control of the underworld because Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades rolled dice to see who would get to choose where they would get to rule. Zeus got first choice and he chose the sky. Poseidon got second choice and he was happy that Zeus chose the sky because it looked boring so he chose the sea. Hades was last so he had to get the underworld.

6. He punished humans by letting their souls enter the underworld but he would never let them leave the underworld.

7. Everything that is created in the underworld belongs to him (gold, silver, etc.), since he owns it all then he is a very wealth person. Just like his brother Poseidon and his sisters Demeter, Hera, and Hestia, Cronus swallowed him. Hades rarely left the underworld and if he did no one knew because he had a helmet that made him invisible.

Very few temples were built for him because he had very few worshipers. His wife is Persephone, Demeter's daughter. He abducted her from earth raped her and then took her to the underworld. The Romans call Hades Pluto. Other names that he was called are Ades, Aides, Aidoneus, Dis, Pluton, and Orcus.

Symbols that are associated with Hades are the two-pronged pitchfork and sometimes a horn of plenty.

Cerberus guards the world of the dead. Cerberus is a huge and savage three-headed dog. The river that the dead crossed was the Styx. Charon ferried the dead across the Styx river.
