What is happiness? Their could be a hundred definitions to any one person. The dictionary defines it as feeling or showing pleasure or contentment. It also says it is being lucky or fortunate. Each person has their own way to define happiness. For me happiness is a celebration such as, a graduation, a wedding, or the birth of a new child.

When I was seventeen, I dropped out of high school. For me this was not a good choice, and as time went on I regretted not finishing school. In 1999, five years after I dropped out, I decided to get my GED. The day the mail came and I opened up the envelope with my GED inside of it, I was the happiest person on the planet. I called everyone I knew to let them know I would be having a cap and gown ceremony. Words cannot describe the joy I felt at knowing that I had finally finished school.

This day will be a day that I never forget.

The next event in my life that I felt overwhelming bliss was the day I got married. June 7, 2000, is the day I married the man of my dreams. I was overcome with a variety of feelings that day ranging from nervousness to sheer bliss. When I stood across from my new husband, and heard the minister say "you may now kiss your bride" I felt like the luckiest woman in the world. Happiness is not just a feeling, it is a choice, and that day I chose to be happy.
