Imagine if you and a friend apply for a certain University and you have a better GPA, SAT score, ACT score, and more social activities on your application. But somehow your friend gets accepted and you don't. And you come to find out it wasn't because you were not more "qualified" but because you are not the right race or sex the university needed to meet their quota. This is something that happens all the time in America, whether it be at a job, schooling or even politics. This discrimination is because of Affirmative Action!Affirmative Action was created in an effort to help minorities against discriminative barriers that were present when the bill was first enacted in 1965. The country was having nationwide civil-rights demonstrations and racial tensions were at an all time high. Most of the corporate and management positions were occupied by White Males who controlled the hiring and firing of employees.

The U.S. government in 1965 believed that these employers were discriminating against Minorities and believed that there was no better time to bring about change. This action started with good intentions but would later lead to a different and more complex form of discrimination.

Affirmative Action is not only unfair for the working man, but is also extremely discriminatory toward the business executive as well. The average business executive has one goal in mind and that is to maximize profits. To reach his goal an executive naturally would hire the most competent Man or Woman for the job, whether they are White, Asian, Hispanic or any other race. Why would a business man intentionally because his business to lose money by hiring a poorly qualified worker? Most businesses would not. But Affirmative Action forces an employer hire a Minority even if they are less qualified. Affirmative...
