A hero is a person who is courageous, strong, and kind. So who do you think of when you hear the word hero? That's right, Steve Irwin, The Crocodile Hunter. There are many heroes, but Steve Irwin is the first name that usually comes to mind.

A hero can be many different kinds of people or animals depending on the person's point of view. For example, a dog could save a drowning child's life and be a hero in the eyes of the child and the parents. The most common examples of heroes are firemen and police officers because they lay their lives on the line on a daily basis to protect and help people.

In some peoples opinions a hero doesn't have to save a life to be considered a hero, but rather a person who stands up for something that they believe in. Martin Luther King, Jr., for example, died standing up for what he believed and helped to end segregation and changed the lives of many people.

Steve Irwin and Johnny Knoxville, on the other hand, are heroes only in a few peoples opinions. Steve Irwin is a hero because he risks his life to show the world dangerous animals that they might not get the chance to see anyother way. Johnny Knoxville, from the popular MTV program, could also be considered a hero because he risks getting injured or possibly killed to pull pranks or stupid stunts to make America laugh.
