What is a Hero?
Hero-1. In mythology and legend, a man, often of divine ancestry, who is endowed with great courage and strength, celebrated for his bold exploits, and favored by the gods. 2. A person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life
I believe a hero is someone who people look up to and admire like a role model. Heroes are important because they give people hope and help them to go on even in the toughest situations. For example in the move "Enemy Behind the Gates" when a soldier tells his commanding officer they (the Russians in WW2) need a hero to give them new hope. Heroes have traits such as strength, courage, and nobility. Greeks had heroes for people to look up to and teach them the trait they should exhibit throughout their lives and this is why they look up to heroes such as Odysseus.

One trait I admire in Odysseus is his ability to get through all obstacles the gods threw at him no matter how much it cost him. He went through all these trials to accomplish one almost impossible task, to get home to his family and his kingdom. For instance how he knew some of his men would die on the journey and how many friends and companion he would lose. A more pacific example is when he has to travel through the rocks where the monster ate some of his men even though he already knew this was going to happen.
