"When Hitler became Chancellor of Germany in January 1933, his powers were very limited. Yet by 1935 he was Fuhrer with almost total power. How did this happen?

Introduction:

Adolf Hitler became the Chancellor of Germany in January 1933. Even though he was Chancellor, his power and control was still very restricted and limited. There was only one man who could over power or dismiss Adolf Hitler at any time, and this man was President Hindenburg. There were also other opposition that the Nazi Party had to face. Hitler continued to reinforce his ideas for Germany. In order to gain the power Hitler wanted could only be won by winning the people. Through radio, mass rallies, signs and posters Hitler was expanding his growth in the public. A friend of President Hindenburg, Papen, who had been unsuccessful as Chancellor. Had proposed that Hitler become Chancellor with only two other Nazi's, himself as Vice Chancellor and that for the election to be rigged.

After Hitler was appointed Chancellor on the 30th of January 1933, he called for new elections. While in the last week of elections, on the 27th of February 1933, Goebbels was dinning with Hitler for dinner; flames in the sky distracted them. From the balcony they could see that the Reichstag building was on fire. The cause of the fire is still undetermined. A Dutch communist named, Marinus van der Lubbe, was caught inside the burning building. Even though there was thoughts of the Nazi's behind the fire nothing was every done. But for the Nazi's the fire came at a great time for the Nazi party and they took advantage of this.
