The Holocaust

As most individuals in Canada, my family immigrated to this great country not long ago. My family origins in Canada as well as the rest of North America start in the early 1950's after World War 2 and the holocaust. All of my fathers family that remains had survived the Nazi's in Europe and their concentration camps. They all came to North America in search of a better life that is free of anti Semitism, and luckily found that home in Canada.

In the early 1930's a man named Adolph Hitler came to power in Germany. He was an evil man who had very radical views on how to run the country. He also had the idea that the German, Arian race was superior over all other races. He was a known anti-Semite and made this very clear in his novel that he wrote while in jail, called Mein Kampf.

(My struggle)(Spielvogel, 566) Hitler, although he was a genius was a failure in school during his days as a student, (Spielvogel, 566) when he became interested in politics he quickly rose to the top. He was a brilliant politician and knew how to win over the hearts of the people. Later, he made his government into a dictatorship rather then a democracy, this is when he was able to start acting on his true will as he had written in Mein Kampf.

By the end of the 1930's, there was deliberate anti-Semitism in the streets of Europe. Jews were forced to wear yellow bands with the Star of David on their arms, so they could be easily identified. Jewish stores were boycotted, and they were robbed and treated like animals. There were even ghettos set up for Jews to live, where they could be watched over closely. All...
