Huck saves a runaway slave because he's loyal& caring and he develops a friendship with Jim. He would do anything to save him.

Huck is a very loyal character. He rescues Jim from the Phelps plantation. When he gets money from the slave catchers after he tells them his dad has small pox, he shares it with Jim. Therefore, Huck is a very loyal person to others.

Not only is Huck loyal, he is also caring. Huck saves a runaway slave because he's loyal & caring and so he develops a friendship with Jim. Huck makes food for himself and Jim. Huck didn't want to turn Jim in because he didn't want to let Jim down(When Huck was at the Grangerfords, he helps Jim who is hidden in the swamp. He helps Jim hide from Miss Watson on Jackson Island. When Mrs. Loftus tells him her husbands coming to catch Jim, Huck hurries to the island and helps Jim escape.

One can see, that Huck is a very caring person for Jim.

Huck saves a runaway slave because he's loyal & caring and so he develops a friendship with Jim. Because of Huck's loyalty & caring, they become friends. Everytime they get separated Huck goes back to save Jim. He rescues Jim from the slave catchers because Jim says, "you're the best friend I ever had."� On the raft they're open and friendly, discussing how Jim would escape from slavery, and philosophy. Thus, Huck is a very good friend to Jim.
