Huffman with a single tractor trailer and is now a national transportation company. The company's central maintenance facility is located in Cleveland, Ohio and has three logistical hubs which are located in Los Angeles, California, St. Louis, Missouri, and Bayonne, New Jersey, which employees 1,400 workers throughout the various locations. Huffman's mission "is to be a profitable, growing, adaptive company in an intensively competitive logistical services business environment" (University of Phoenix, 2009). In regard to technology the company plans on accomplishing its mission by being "the industry leader in leveraging technology to the maximum to provide customer service and business efficiencies" (University of Phoenix, 2009). Installed at each location are various telephony systems that handle the communication needs of the company. For the purposes of this paper an inspection of Huffman's current business telephony system was conducted.

This paper will describe the findings of the company's current telephony network.

After reviewing Huffman's network design diagram the company uses both analog and digital telephony communication system. The California and New Jersey logistical hubs appear to use a POTS system and private branch exchanges (PBX), which are installed on their respective networks, where one is to serve the office and the other for the plant facility. However, the California plant location appears to use a Nortel digital phone system or Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), which will be discussed later. "A private branch exchange (PBX) is a telephone exchange that serves a particular business or office, as opposed to one that a common carrier or telephone company operates for many businesses or for the general public" (Wikipedia, 2009).
