Human Capital Concept WorksheetMichele TurnerUniversity of PhoenixHuman Capital Concepts WorksheetConceptApplication of Concept in the ScenarioReference to Concept in ReadingSelective RecruitingInterClean's Internal Consultant was asked to conduct a skills inventory. The Internal Consultant reported the analysis concerning proficiency levels with the comparison of Enviro Tech's sales force. Both analysis shows that both companies have qualified personal for the positions. Since this is the method of selective recruiting, it may possibly be part of the acquisition agreement. In times of acquisition doing selective recruiting from the outside can cause a wave of resignations from the existing employees.

"Hiring the right people means more than just securing employees who possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform a particular job; these people must also be able to acquire new knowledge and skills as jobs and environments change" (Dreher & Dougherty, 2001, chap. 1, pg 6).

Training and Skill DevelopmentThe employees of InterClean will require additional training so that they are competent in their jobs.

The training may have to be put on hold because of InterClean's budget. Janet Durham recommended that the company trained management staff to implement the new changes with the employees.

"firms must take care to select people withthe ability and willingness to learn and develop, and they must establish rewardpractices that encourage employees to participate in training activities" (Dreher & Dougherty, 2001, chap. 1 pg 7).

Symbolic EgalitarianismInteclean was very effective in communicating the changes to upper management that were going to take place, but failed to communicate the plans effectively to the sales force and the lower level employees. When this happened, this made the lower level employee morale low and they were not sure about their future. Management needed to do a better job of communicating the new goals with all members of the company.
