INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this Hurricane Preparedness Plan is to provide pertinent information that is necessary for a safe and effective response to hurricanes that could potentially affect the facility, the staff and the patients. In the event of a Hurricane, the results could cause water and wind damage, utility damage, personal injury and other severe episodes that may cause minimal to catastrophic damage. The purpose of this plan is to give all personnel an opportunity to prepare in the event of an hurricane. This will allow for all staff to prepare to be prompt with an efficient response and recovery phase. This will not only preserve lives but the health, safety and well-being.

Plan Maintenance - The Emergency Planning Committee will revise this plan and make corrections annually. This plan will be revised in accordance with Joint Commission (JC) standards.

DEFINITIONS

Emergency - A natural event that that disrupted the environment, the treatment of patients and changes for the organizational services.

All Clear - When a state of emergency has indexed, the disaster is complete; to end disaster preparedness plan duties. End all activities and return to normal.

Disaster - A natural event that significantly disrupt the environment and possibly resulting in damage to the facility due to the significant event. A disaster is an event that not only disrupts the facility structure but it affects the power, water, lines of communication.

Hospital Command Incident System - HICS is an incident management system based on the principles of the Incident Command System (ICS), which assists hospitals in improving their emergency management planning, response, and recovery capabilities for unplanned and planned events.
