A huge issue right now is immigration; legal or illegal. There are discussions on whether immigrants should be allowed into the country. Immigration is something that should be stopped, people should not cross the border illegally or overstay on visits. According to Negative Population Growth, Americans firmly believe in tough laws against illegal immigrants and that seventy percent of Americans want no more than 300,000 legal immigrants to enter the U.S. per year. Negative Population Growth says that Twenty percent of Americans want immigration completely stopped. This result of having Americans believe that we have too many immigrants (Cozic 25).

Many people would say that today's immigrants are somehow different than those of the past. The majority of the immigrants of the late 19th and early 20th centuries were forced to leave their homes by the change of nature in their countries. In nations like Mexico and Vietnam, the same thing is happening today, the economic disruptions that made Europeans immigrants from the nineteenth century to migrate.

Old immigrant groups had significant cultural differences that caused friction between them and the natives. Those immigrants of the past also did not come to America and instantly throw off all ability of their language and society (Cozic 30). However, according to Charles Cozic, "many [...] exerted themselves to sustain their religions, tongues and ways of life".

Illegal immigration to America is causing many conflict in many areas, but the major one is the economy. Illegal immigrants can hurt and help the economy.
