Growing up as a child, I remember looking forward to every summer vacation, when my family and I would all go to Mexico for a couple of weeks. I remember that my dad would wake us up the day we were leaving at around 5 a.m. and we would all pack our stuff in our van. We would head out on our way within an hour. The trip took a long time, 2 days to be exact, but when you're little nothing really matters. You can be in a van on a road trip for days and as long as you have something to be entertained with, time flies by fast.
On our way to Mexico, I can remember my mom and dad pointing out things along the road to keep us entertained for a while. We would stop at places like Arizona, and we'd buy a little bag that you could fill up with as many pretty rocks as you could.
I remember feeling delighted as I filled my little bag with pink, blue, purple, black, and white rocks. After that we'd all get in the van and drive off once again. We'd stop every few hours to grab something to eat. We'd stop at different gift shops to buy stuff. Finally at about 9 p.m. we'd find the closest hotel, and we would rent a room so we could all get a little sleep.
Before we knew it, it was morning and my dad was waking us up so we could leave back on the road again. The next day the hours seemed like they were longer, we were all tired of sitting down in the van, but when we'd ask my parents when we were going to get there, they'd always reply "We're almost there".
