Introduction

This report is aimed at producing a detailed description of the business functions, current and possible future Information Systems needs of Chanrais Supermarket. It also examines the authority levels and management report system of the supermarket. Concluding this report are a few shop floor transactions and the derived reports between middle and senior management. These reports look at how the information from shoppers' shopping patterns can be used to positively influence the profit, growth and long term benefits of the organization.

This work has been compiled by actual visits to the clients' site and web resourcing and researching.

ANALYSIS

BUSINESS FUNCTIONS

Chanrais supermarket being a large retail business has a complex business system that comprises of these components:

Logistics/Transportation - Inbound logistics (receiving products from manufacturers/ suppliers) and outbound logistics (delivering products to other retail stores and consumers/customers/clients) is a major component of the organizations functions that determines when and what condition their clients receive their goods. Certain goods like fresh foods, vegetables and dairy products have to be transported within a certain timeframe and particular temperature/humidity.

Warehousing/Distribution: About 20,000 cartons, boxes and packs of different products are received at Chanrais weekly. Storing these properly and safely includes the arrangement and stacking of cartons and boxes by product type, weight, and life span. Fresh produces have to be stored adequately...
