INTRODUCTIONI. Picture yourself in a dense jungle of towering bamboo.

A. You walk along a path that winds past waterfalls and exotic plants.

B. You start to hear the songs of unknown birds and off in the distance you hear the roar of a tiger.

C. As your heart starts beating faster and the anticipation builds up, you start to think that you are on a wildlife adventure on the other side of the world.

D. As you approach a clearing, you notice something moving behind a large boulder.

1. A tail flips giving you a small glimpse of something big.

2. And then with a few mighty strides, an Asian elephant walks past you followed by the rest of the herd including a baby named Maliha.

E. But this is no far away place that is unreachable for most, it’s the St. Louis Zoo just a few miles from home.

II. Located in Forest Park in St. Louis, the zoo is home to thousands of species of animals from all over the world.

A. Many of them are endangered and threatened to near extinction.

B. As a member of the Young Zoo Friends Association and very frequent visitor of the zoo, I enjoy seeing and learning about these amazing creatures and hope they are around for future generations.

C. And as Zoo President Jeffrey Bonner says in his mission statement, it is the goal of the zoo “To conserve animals and their habitats through animal management, research, recreation, and educational programs that encourage the support and enrich the experience of the public.”III. Today I would like to inform you on the two major ways of education and conservation that the zoo is working on to conserve animals and their habitats.
