Before watching the video about James Watson I was really scared about the topic. But after watching him with all his self-confidence and intellectuality I was ready to write. During his conversation he narrates how they found the structure of DNA. Of course it is a life-long process so we also learn about his life with his story.
James D. Watson was born on April 6, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois. James D. His childhood was spent in Chicago. he was bright and curious. He was always asking everything's reason and he wasn't satisfied with simple answers. In Chicago he attended Horace Mann Grammar School for eight years and South Shore High School for two years.
Watson received a scholarship for the University of Chicago, and in the summer of 1943 he entered their experimental college. In his senior year in the college he read Erwin Schrödinger's book: What is Life? It was about 'The Physical Aspect of the Living Cell'.
He learned that genes and chromosomes are keeping the secrets of life and he was affected by this.
In 1947, he received a degree at Zoology. His childhood passion of bird-watching turned into a desire to learn genetics. After his graduation in Zoology at Indiana University, where he received his Ph.D. degree in Zoology in 1950' it became possible.
At Indiana, he prepared his Ph. D. thesis under the guidance of geneticist S.E. Luria it was a study of the effect of hard X-rays on bacteriophage multiplication. In 1950 he went to Copenhagen where he worked together with Herman Kalckar, and Ole Maaloe on bacterial viruses. In a Symposium that he went together with Kalkcar at Naples he met M. Wilkins and he saw for the first time the X-ray diffraction pattern of crystalline...
