I think that Jimmy Buffet is a very influential person in the entire music industry even though he has never won any awards for his music. I believe he is a man that is really down to Earth. The reason that I say this is that whenever anything that does not go his way he remembers about his plane crash a couple of years ago and realizes that he is lucky even to be alive. To me this makes a person down to Earth because now he takes everything in stride and he also pursues his dreams. He knows that eventually he will achieve all of his goals that he wants to. Another thing that I admire about him is his persistence even before his plane crash. When he started out singing he was playing only in front of his mother and his mother's bridge club. Then he soon started playing for local bars, then audiences in small concert halls, then he eventually made it to large concert halls, and now he is playing for sold out concerts of over 35,000 people.

Even before his plane crash he lived a very laid back life. The reason that I say that is in his songs. He always talks about sailing to get away from everyone so that he can relax; he also talks about drinking to relieve stress and also will make him relaxed. Also in his songs he talks about fishing, which for some people is also very relaxing, and for him this is his passion.
When I go to his concerts, I believe the reason that I see people from their early teens all the way up to people in their sixties is that he can relate to all these people. The reason that I say he relates to the older group is that he understands how much things have risen over the last decades. He even mentions the rise in prices in couple of his songs especially on the Feeding Frenzy CD. Another way that he can relate with the older group of people is how they are slowly slowing down but still wants to be young a kid at heart. At his concerts these older people can be next to the younger group and party with them just pretending that they are kids again; maybe just for a day but the younger people really brings the kid out of the older people.
I believe that he is liked by the younger people for the basically the same reason as the older people like him. One reason that the younger people admire him is because of his songs. Most of his songs talk about drinking, smoking marijuana, and also having sex. Most young people love to drink, always want to have sex, and some of the younger people want to smoke marijuana. Some of his most famous songs deal with these issues. Two of these songs that deal with these issues are "Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw"ÃÂ and his other famous song is "Margaretville."ÃÂ Jimmy does not look down on people for doing drugs because he admits that he has smoked marijuana and he has also admitted that when he was broke in the Key West area he would smuggled marijuana from the Caribbean to the Keys to make some money. He realizes that college is expensive and that some college students need to deal marijuana to be able to go to school and try to get an education.
Another reason that I love listening to Jimmy Buffet is his songs. I really like listening to his music in the wintertime because I can visually see a beach with the ocean with warm temperatures out from my window even though there is snow outside and it is below zero. So his music is uplifting for me in the wintertime because I know that every day of winter that goes by, I am one day closer to summer and being able to sit out on the deck drinking "boat"ÃÂ drinks. Even during the summer time when I'm not by a beach or a lake and listening to his music it still gives me a image of me sitting out on the beach with the ocean right there, while the ocean's breeze is going threw my hair, and I'm drinking "boat"ÃÂ drinks.
I strongly believe that when he is finally done playing for good and has left the Earth (hopefully not for a long-long time) he will finally get the recognition that he deserves from rest of the music industry; however, right now he doesn't really care if he gets any awards for his music since he knows that he is loved by all the Parrotheads across the world.
