Johnny TremainJohnny TremainJohnny Tremain, a boy from Boston, lives a life in the American Revolution. As a young boy, Johnny Tremain and his mother live in Massachusetts together and he decides to be a silversmith when he grows up. At the age of fourteen Johnny''s mother dies and is apprenticed to a silversmith named Mr. Lapham. Before his mother died, she gave him a silver cup that showed that he was a member of the Lyte family. The cup signifies that he is related to the famous merchant Lyte who was very rich. One day Johnny gets an order to get a silver sugar basin for the wealthy Mr. John Hancock. As he casts Dove, Johnny''s partner who is very jealous of Johnny great skill gave him a cracked crucible and it spilled all over the stove top. Johnny went to get it but it burned his hand very badly.

Mr. Lapham sent out for a midwife to come and heal his burn.

The midwife wrapped his hand together and it crippled and stuck together with scar tissue, which meant he couldn't work as a silversmith anymore with a bad hand. Mr. Lapham, Johnny''s master, said that he was always welcome to stay in there home. Soon Mr. Lapham grew very impatient, so Johnny set out to find a job. He had a pretty hard time finding a job because nobody wanted a boy with a crippled hand and couldn't use it. After looking, he was offered a job to deliver the Boston Observer by Rab, a boy who was about Johnny''s age, which was a town newspaper.

Johnny became a messenger for a group of patriots that includes Sam Adams, Paul Revere, and John Hancock, the Sons of Liberty. Johnny wanted to get to Lexington, so he made himself look like a wounded soldier by tearing open his shirt and smearing mud and blood on his face and body. He successfully slipped past the British soldiers and got to Lexington. When he arrived, he saw Pumpkin and gave him some clothes to escape the war and Pumpkin gave Johnny his uniform and a musket. Johnny dressed up and got to Dr. Warren. Dr. Warren fixed his burned hand by cutting the scar tissue. Johnny later finds out that Rab had been badly wounded. Doctor Warren tries to help but ends up dying.
