The identity and the psychological profile

of the Joker in "The Dark Knight"

"The Dark Knight" is a British - American film directed and produced by Christopher Nolan. His source of inspiration was the Joker's comic book made in 1940, the graphic novel known as "The killing Joke" made in 1988 and "The Long Halloween". "The Dark Knight" was filmed in several locations, such as Chicago, Times Square, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom. It was released on July 18, 2008 in the United States and it is one of the most famous superhero films.

The main characters were played by Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne, Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent, Heath Ledger as the Joker and Gary Oldman as Gordon. The Joker is a fictional character, a criminal mastermind who terrorizes Gotham City and also the primary antagonist of Batman. His appearance is very suggestive: he is tall, but shorter than Batman, dressed in a custom tailored suit, a purple coat with matching pin-stripe pants, green vest, a blue jacket and he also wears white make-up, with blackened eyes and red smeared over the already gruesome scars.

The look of a clown suggests that he doesn't care about anything, not even about himself.

He is known as a "psychopathic, mass murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy" as Heath Ledger described him. No one knows who the Joker really is, because he lies all the time and he changes the stories about his past very often. There are some theories about his origins: an escaped patient from Arkham Asylum, an employee of the Haley Brothers Circus or a former soldier suffering from acute PTSD. There are some speculations that even the Joker himself doesn't know his true origins.
