The civil war was the first and only battle fought between Americans. It was also one of the bloodiest wars ever fought. The civil war was a battle mainly over slavery and the south becoming its own country many people fought the war just because they had so much pride. The battle of Gettysburg was a major turning point in the civil war. Many confederate troops died giving the union an advantage throughout the rest of the war it also pushed the unions lines forward. This battle broke many great commanders especially General Lee who asked to be relived because he could not live easily with himself for making the decision to charge at Gettysburg but he denied his request but still a good he was never the same. The union after suffering a few losses were weary but they stood strong and the win at Gettysburg boosted the morale of the union army.

If the confederates had won that battle they probably would have pushed through to Washington and made the president sign a document that let the south be its own country.

Gettysburg was the turning point in the war but it wasn't the end. Many more battles were fought by commanders that fought in Gettysburg. Many commanders in the union were awarded medals for their bravery. Though this was a major battle that was won there were still a few losses on the union army side. Another reason why the union did so well in the war was because they had the control of the western state and got twenty percent of what ever was found by gold diggers in the gold and silver rush. Most of the country was behind the union but the spirit of the south kept them going.
