Critical Thinking Case Study

"With the foundation and commitment of our spiritual heritage and values, our mission is to promote the health and well-being of the people in the communities we server through a comprehensive continuum of services provided in collaboration with the partners who share the same vision and values." (pg4) This is the motto of Faith Community Hospital. Although the interpretation of how to accomplish the motto varies, the ultimate meaning should still be the same which is "to promote the health and well-being of the people". Faith Community Hospital is faced with several difficult tasks within the very near future. The first task to attempt to handle is the rising cost of hospital expenses versus the decline in the patient population. The second task at hand is finding ways to deal with the health care providers and the distinct differences in coverage from patient to patient, and finally, to standardize the variances of employees' ability to interpret the rules and standards of the hospital.

Improvements in these areas would surely raise the success level of the hospital.

Since the problems have already been determined by Pat, the CEO of Faith Community Hospital, then isolation of the issues to determine maybe some common solutions would be at hand. As anyone in a corporate environment knows, paperwork and red tape can be one of the most time consuming procedures of all. Any possibility of reducing the amount of paperwork will not only improve time management, but also simply help keep hourly wages and expenses down. Hospital's cost per patient per day has increased approximately 11% within the last year. According to the New England Journal of Medicine, administrative cost has risen in excess of 38% per year.
