""César Estrada Chávez (March 31, 1927 - April 23, 1993) was a Mexican American farm worker, labor leader, and civil rights activist who co-

founded the National Farm Workers Association, which later became the United Farm Workers. His work led to numerous improvements for union workers. He is

considered a hero for farm laborers. He is hailed as one of the greatest American civil rights leaders after Martin Luther King, Jr.. His birthday has become a holiday in

four U.S. states. Many parks, cultural centers, libraries, schools, and streets have been named in his honor in several cities across the United


Cesar Chavez was born by Yuma, Arizona: he was also named after his grampa. He didn't like school. His teachers wouldn't let them speak spanish

and they would hit him in the knuckles for speaking it. Along with the abusive teachers, kids made racist remarks.

He had a brother and the two of the went to

thirty-seven schools before they graduated.

He thought that school had nothing to do with the kind of work he did as a farmer. He only finished the eighth grade, when his mom got sick and

his dad couldn't work. So to Prevent his mom from having to work on the farm and the fields he dropped out to get a job and help her out. After two years he got

sick of that and decided to join the navy, he was in that for two years. Soon after that he decided to get married and have some kids; (the internet only names

three of his eight kids), Fernando, Sylvia, and Linda. Then Chavez and his family moved up to Delano.
