The 1930s was a hard time for the world and its children. Money was scarce and times were difficult. (Sutton 1) Germany had just conceded to several territories and had signed the Treaty of Versailles. ("Great Depression" 1) This country had just lost all the money they had gained since the end of World War I and the United States ended the loans that they had extended to Germany. Worse yet Germany was now run by, the dictator, Adolf Hitler. (1) Anne Frank was a remarkable child in this decade. This girl's life story, which she told through her diaries, has changed the way that people think about the treatment of Jews in their homes and in death camps.

Anne was a Jewish victim of the Nazi Holocaust. ("Anne Frank" 1) Born on June 12th, 1929 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany Anne was always a good child. Anne's father, Otto Frank, relocated his family to Amsterdam in the Netherlands to escape discrimination.

(1) During the time when the Franks were living happily together Margot, Anne's sister received a letter that said that she had to report to a "labor camp". (1) This brought the Franks in to reality.

The Franks realized that a labor camp was a concentration camp and quickly went into hiding one day after receiving the letter in a secret annex. They were soon joined by the Van Pels and Friz Pfeffer. ("The Diary of Anne Frank: The Critical Edition" 15) Those eight people lived together until the police found them out on August 4th, 1944. (28) Through all this time Anne documented her thoughts.

Anne kept several diaries through her whole experience. There are entries between June 12th, 1942 and August 1st, 1944. ("The Diary of Anne Frank: The Critical Edition" ix)...
