Executive Summary

This report essentially brings home the importance of KMS to the corporate strategy. Based on the literature review, it is clear that a relationship exists between corporate strategy, knowledge strategy and hence KMS. This link has been shown to exist using the Australian Tax Office (ATO) strategic direction example.

Thus, it is timely reminder to top managements that investments in KMS are needed and have direct appeal to the corporate strategy.

It may be that corporations need not look for justifying their KMS investments only through return on investment approach. As said in the previous paragraph, investments in KMS can have a direct relationship with the corporate strategy.

Introduction

The relationship between the corporate strategy and knowledge management strategy has been discussed in the literature by Zack (1998), Jones (2003) and others. A comprehensive knowledge management strategy, includes the recommended knowledge management initiatives and knowledge management architecture (Snowden cited in Milne 2002 p.42). The KM initiative, include the systems to be developed.
