Introduction:

Research is what every essay, paper or draft begins with. Not only students have to research thoroughly when writing a paper for their classes, scholars do have to do this just as well. The internet has made it much easier to find a vast number of potential sources, but one also has to be very careful since there are not only reliable websites to be found. When looking for the exact phrase "Catcher in the Rye" at http://www.google.com one will find about 346,000 results. This huge amount of information does not only make it harder to find reliable sources, but it also makes it easier to abuse those. A teacher that has to read about 20 essays will not be able to go to all of these websites just to find out if the student copied something (plagiarism).

The internet offers a great chance to find information, but it also aggravates work for all those that write and/or correct papers.

In the course of this discussion I would like to prove that LION is a good starting point on the internet in finding reliable sources in print and digital form.

LION (Literature Online) can be found at http://lion.chadwyck.co.uk/ and is being published by ProQuest. The senior publisher is Dan Burnstone. All publishers and editors of this site have earned academical degrees, 4 of 5 have even achieved PhDs.

The website contains "more than 350,000 works of English and American poetry, drama and prose, 150 full-text literature journals, and other key criticism and reference resources" . Those are mainly searched by teachers, librarians and students, all of which form the target audience.
