Lady Macbeth essay

Lady Macbeth, a deeply ambitious woman who desired power and position. She was a very thought provoking character who played a big role in the play, Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare. The story is about a man named Macbeth, who was a Scottish general and the Thane of Glamis. He found out from three witches that he was going to become the Thane of Cawdor and was then to become the future King. In order for Macbeth to take over the throne, his wife Lady Macbeth persuaded him into murdering the King. She displayed an image of braveness, ambitiousness and power. This was a very different image compared to the woman from that era. However, as the play went on, her feeling of guilt and madness took over and she was unable to maintain her strong image. This showed us what human nature really is and how guilt and regret is a weakness that many of us cannot avoid and overcome.

Back in the Shakespearean times, women were subservient, and dependent on the males in their family. They normally did not have a very strong and impactful opinion when making decisions. However, in the play Macbeth, Shakespeare created a very different view on the role of woman. This was portrayed through the character of Lady Macbeth. Although Lady Macbeth was a female, she had a lot of power over her husband, Macbeth. This was shown in Act 1, when she found out that Macbeth was to take over the crown in the future. In order for her husband to have a secure spot as future king, she convinced him into killing Duncan.
