The main characters from Maiden Voyage, "Youth: A Narrative" , and Captains Courageous.

The main characters from Maiden Voyage, "Youth: A Narrative" , and Captains Courageous came from different backgrounds and went through a very different journey, but they were taught the same thing. When I first finished reading these three books, I could only see a few similarities between them. How could three books so different be so much the same? After, I was asked to write about what their similarities were. I began to notice that they had a lot more in common then just the sea. The most noticeable similarity I found in the books was that each of the main characters learned great lessons that would aid them in their journey through life. All of the main characters, Tania, Marlow, and Harvey, started their voyage as selfish, unknowledgeable people who were very sheltered throughout their lives.

At the end of their voyages, however, they were no longer who they once were; they had all done a complete 180 degree turnaround and came to realize an essential part of themselves.

The story of Tania in the Maiden Voyage was very well written, but it did not grasp my attention. For some reason, I have never been interested in reading fictional adventures. When I read about Tania Aebi's decision of choosing the opportunity to sail around the world instead of getting a college education, I was outraged! I thought she was so unintelligent for making a poor mistake like that. As I read further however, I realized that college is not for everyone and you can learn crucial life lessons through alternative experiences. Throughout her experience, it was very clear that Tania learned new things. "Psychologically, the first couple of days at sea...
