Last Sunday, I went to the Repulse Bay with my family and planned to enjoy our time on the beach though out the day. With the sunny and cool weather, we were sure we would have a memorial day spent on the beach.

While I was building a sand castle with my younger sister excitingly, my mother and father was having an amazingly comfortable sun-bath, which could be shown from their relaxed facial expression. They must have been working so hard the week before! Then, I suddenly saw most of the swimmers were reacting strangely in the bay; they were all rushing back onto the beach. I realized that something was wrong. Curiously, I stopped playing and went over the beach to see what’s happening. I saw large amount of grease kept rushing out from the big vessel, which parked very close from the bay.

I noticed some swimmers immediately took out their mobile phone and dialed to the police station.

At the same time, some rescuers kept running and shouting to the people on the beach to prevent them from going back to the sea.

Within 5 minutes, all swimmers, who had been swimming, have returned safely to the beach. People from the Environmental Protection Apartment had already arrived and were trying to prevent further leakage of oil by sailing boats to the vessel and use certain equipments to block the exit of leakage of oil.

With the quick skills that the workers own, the situation was successfully controlled after 15 minutes. Soon enough, reporters arrived and started reporting the accident through the live media.

This accident has arisen the public concern on the environmental issue. It was believed that the accident was due to man-made mistake. This accident has caused thousands of aquatic organisms die due to suffocation and severe water pollution in the bay.

I think the Hong Kong Government should quickly set up some regulations to restrict large vessels from parking near the beaches and ensure they do not carry overloaded substances, especially substance which is harmful to the aquatic environment, so as to minimize the chance of having the above accident again.
