Marketing is many things to many people. It is the delivery of a standard of living, an important support of people's life styles. It is the buying, promoting, pricing and selling of products and services. It is moving goods from points of production to points of consumption. It is storing goods. It is an anticipating customer needs and marshalling the resources of organizations to fill those needs. (Rom J. Markin, (1979), Marketing, John Wiley & Sons, United States of America, P20) However, many people hold an erroneous view towards that marketing is only about the advertising and/or personal selling of goods and services. Advertising and selling, however, are just two of the many marketing activities. Therefore, to understand "marketing" is not a simple task. In this essay, it tends to analyse "marketing" in more detail and author's own opinion of marketing.

.Marketing is a social and managerial process by which individuals and groups obtain what they need and want through creating and exchanging products and value with others.

P7).This definition will be broken down into five components which are needs, wants, product, value and exchanging. The starting point for the discipline of marketing lies in human needs and wants. Human needs are state of felt deprivation (Kotler, P., Adam, S., Brown, L., & Armstrong, G (2003), Principles of Marketing, 2nd edition, Prentice Hall, Australia. P7). It is basic human requirement for survival. People everywhere must have food, air, water, clothing, and shelter which called physical needs to survive. They also need education, self-expression which is called individual needs and social needs for health care, affection. But beyond these needs, people crave love, security, and moral strength of a belief system. People...
