Work team effectiveness

Eight years ago, the leadership team at GeneOne worked together to develop a gene technology that destroys diseases found in tomatoes and potatoes. As a result, farmers no longer have to use pesticides when growing their crops and consumers were pleased to purchase products that were not tainted by pesticides. This new gene technology helped GeneOne to grow in to a multi-million dollar business with in a short period.

"Performance means acceptability of output to customers within or outside the organization who receive team products, services, information, decisions, or performance events. While the foregoing relates to satisfying the needs and expectations of outsiders such as clients, customers, and fans, another team-effectiveness criterion arises." (Kreitner-Kinicki 2003, p451)

Cohesiveness

GeneOne's leadership team seemed to lack a sense of cohesiveness. The lack of cohesiveness was shown at the meeting held on March 8, 2005. During the meeting, some of the team members were confrontational because of the different opinions that were displayed at the meeting. Some team members were excited about the Initial Public Offering transformation process, while others showed concern about the process. After the meeting, several members of the team started to conduct informal meeting to discuss the future of the company.

"Cohesiveness is a process whereby "a sense of 'we-ness' emerges to transcend individual differences and motives." (Kreitner-Kinicki 2003, p 459)

High Performance Teams

GeneOne has all of the necessary attributes to be a high-performance team. All of the team members want the same thing ~ growth. The high communication must continue between all of the team members to figure out what is best for the company.
