The use of marijuana is a prevalent topic in the news today. The controversy centers on the recreational use of marijuana but the hidden story is about the medical use of marijuana. Due to the safety and effectiveness of medical marijuana it should be widely available for all patients.

Marijuana is one of the most commonly used drugs in the United States. It is described as a dry, shredded green/brown mix of flowers, stems, seeds, and leaves of the hemp plant Cannabis sativa. It is usually smoked as a cigarette (joint, nail) or in a pipe (bong). It can also be smoked in blunts or cigars that have been emptied of tobacco and refilled with marijuana and often combined with another drug. Marijuana can also be mixed in with other foods or brewed as a tea. Marijuana has a pungent and distinctive smell. The smell is usually a sweet-and-sour odor.

THC is short for delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol. The THC kicks off series of cellular reaction that leads to the high the users experience when smoking marijuana.
