Memoir

The year 2009 was the hardest year of my life so far. I went through a lot of struggles and life changing evens in that year. My whole world was turned upside down in only a short period of time.

The most traumatic thing that has ever happened to me was my Granddad passing away on September 26, 2009 only a few short months after my parents divorced and we moved from Pike County to Rockdale County. This day is forever burned into my memory. We were riding in the car on the way home from a family gathering and my mom got a call from my dad. He told her that my Granddad was getting worse and we needed to come see him. The next morning we got in the car and drove almost three hours to the hospital he was in. I walked into the room and automatically knew something was wrong.

I grabbed his hand like I always did but this time he was ice cold and didn't squeeze back. At that very moment I knew he was gone. I didn't know what else to do but kiss his head and tell him I loved him. As I was saying my last goodbyes a man I've never seen before came into the room. He said he was the hospital pastor and that my granddaddy came to see him frequently. He told me that he always talked about how proud his grandkids made him. He then prayed for my family and left.

The ride home from the hospital all I could think about was how I could go on living without my granddaddy there to help me through all the struggles. After thinking back to what the pastor from the hospital said I decided...
