Microsoft plans to introduce a Windows XP update that would launch a built-in firewall and automatically obtain and install security patches regularly. It is basically an anti-virus research manager for Microsoft Corp; it would report errors to them through the internet at your request (pop up window or manual compliant) and then it would auto update. Auto update is excellent for the home user, the PC networks, ones without the expertise, and Windows XP as an OS. Three-quarters of program complaints from Sasser were acquired through the auto-update tool. Sasser is a network worm that does not require user activation by clicking on an e-mail attachment, thus this could prevent many major computer crash's, not all. Before virus writers were still developing exploiters much more quickly after vulnerability is announced, now what used to take months or years now takes weeks, days, or even hours. Most security experts discourage larger corporations from allowing automated updates, they say that companies should test patches, otherwise known as a fix, because this might interfere with the companies' programs' data.

This program does require the user to download it and configured them to get the latest security fixes automatically. This program comes with most new computers with XP as their OS but it does require an update that would launch a built-in firewall and automatically obtain and install security patches regularly. Auto-update does not ensure that computer virus are a thing of the past, it can only protect so much, users still can still do something as simple as clicking on a e-mail attachment and get infected, patches do little to stop viruses that rely not on Windows flaws.
