I read a book called My Brother Sam is Dead, by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier. It was very different but interesting. To think that the author could write such a long book with four main interesting characters is amazing. The main characters in this book are Sam and Tim who are brothers and their parents. They lived in Redding Connecticut in 1775.

There are four main characters in this book. One of them is Sam who wants to take Father's brown bess (his gun) and go to war. Sam is a very determined character. To prove my point the next day he takes his father's gun and goes to war. Life, the father, doesn't want Sam to go to war and does not believe in the war. He has a bad temper too. The mother doesn't play much of a part until the end, but it's an important one.

She is a kind, caring person.

This book is different and exciting. Why? This book is about war or connected to war but it's not that violent like other war books. That's why it's different. It's exciting because it is very intense. One of the reasons its non-stop intensity is one part of the family is on the British side and the other part of the family want the Continentals to win.

Since the story's too long to summarize I'll tell you what happens at the end. The father is captured and dies from a disease on a prison ship. Sam gets shot because he was trying to guide the cattle back into the barn, but people thought he was steeling them.
