Who was the "bad guy" of the Cold War? Russia probably is the first thing that pops in your head. That is because you are an American, but it is easy to see that the United States could be just as evil as Russia or maybe even worse. The Soviets thought we wanted to go to war because we elected a general (Eisenhower) to be our President.
The Soviets feared nuclear war highly but felt it was inevitable. The Soviets tried to put up a front, that they have been through all the German ings so the Soviets could handle whatever the United States had. Sadly for the Soviets, that could only comfort the ignorant (Khrushchev 35).
The first time that Eisenhower and Khrushchev met was at the Four-Power Summit conference. Khrushchev was very paranoid the most important thing was that the two leaders got to know each other. They realized that they could work with each other but it was still going to be a long hard road.
I don't think Khrushchev wanted to make it any harder than it had to be. Khrushchev wanted peace but more importantly he wanted safety for his people( Khrushchev 35).
While reading an American article out of Iowa, Khrushchev realized that he needed to put more funds toward agriculture. He saw that when they were putting all the money toward military he was starving his country. While keeping up in the arms race with America was important, food sustains life and what lives would he be saving in the arms race if they all died of hunger. Nikita Khrushchev and why Russia is not Evil
You raised some good points, but I feel you need to better justify your ideas. All too often your writing style seems too "loose" and as a result comes across more as someone chatting informally in a pub rather than as a learned essay.
It seems too simple to declare that "the United States could be just as evil as Russia or maybe even worse", especially as nowhere do you actually give examples of American "evil" Certainly your title needs a lot of work.
As I am not American I do not assume the USSR was the "bad guy" at all, by the way.
