Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell

In the novel Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell, Orwell has presented us with his view of the future. I believe that Orwell was indeed on the right track concerning political government issues, even if all his predictions for 1984 did not become a complete realisation. I also believe that when George Orwell was writing this novel he did have a concern for the people in the future about the political issues. I think Orwell wrote the novel to warn the people of the future events.

The novel takes place in London, which is a part of Oceania. The whole world is divided into three countries: Oceania, Eurasia and Eastasia. Big Bother, which controls everyone's behaviour and thoughts, runs all the countries. I would say that big bother is to be immortal for nobody has ever seen him before only from the posters plaster everywhere on the streets of Oceania.

The main character of the novel is Winston Smith who lives in Oceania. Winston is a depressed man who is disgusted by his exploited life. He is a member of the "outer party". Winston works for the government in the Ministry of Truth. His job is to rewrite history books in order to learn what the past used to be like. Winston secretly hates Big brother and the party. He rebels against the party in small different ways knowing that even thinking about such things could easily bring him to death. He has already committed thoughtcrime, the act of having negatives thoughts towards Big Bother.

I will give you three sentences that will sum up what the party stands for, and they are:

"WAR IS PEACE"

"FREEDOM IS SLAVERY"

"IGNORANCE IS STRENGHT"

War and Peace, Freedom is slavery and ignorance is...
