Vitamin C

Vitamin C is used for the formation of the connective tissues of the body. Vitamin C also protects cells from ageing. Scurvy which is cause by a lack of vitamin C and people with Scurvy have loose teeth and their wounds do not heal well. Green leafy vegetables such as spinach and in citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons and limes.

Vitamin D is needed in the body for the efficient uptake and use of calcium ions If there is a lack of Vitamin D, calcium cannot be incorporated into teeth and bones. People who do not have enough vitamin D get a disease called rickets which gives you weak legs and you are not able to bend under the weight of their body. Vitamin D is found in fish liver oils and milk. Vitamin D can be also made when the top layer of your skin is exposed to sunlight

Calcium is needed for strong teeth and bones.

It is needed for muscles to contract and it plays a part in the clotting of the blood. If there is a shortage of calcium it leads to a diet called rickets. There is a lot of Calcium in milk, cheese and fish.

Iron is needed to make hemoglobin ( the pigment in red blood cells that transport oxygen ) Iron also has other functions such as helping mitochondria to release energy during respiration. If there is a lack of iron there is disease called anemia. A person who is affected by anemia feels tired and weak. There is a lot of iron in red meat especially in the liver. Anaemic people come also pale.
