Introduction:
Not long ago, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) was considered rare.
Today, ASD is considered one of the most common developmental disorders in children. The Center for Disease Control (2009) reports that, on average, 1 in every 150 children in the United States is diagnosed with a form of autism which is more than the rates of childhood cancer. Most research shows that ASD arises more in young boys than in young girls, but more studies need to be conducted to accurately determine this.
