Challenges of Being an Advocate and Mediator

It is a very hard challenge being an advocate and a mediator. You have to learn to be patience with the client and listen to their needs. I love children so much, so I would love to be an advocate for a abuse child. I always felt like I went through some abuse as a child. But it was due to my parents being so young when they had me. So I have that need to want to help other children out there because I felt like I had no one to turn to for help. Being an advocate and mediator for children you have to make sure you know ethical, moral, and legal challenges it takes to fight for these children.

As an advocate we can run into some ethical issue and we need to be aware of the potential problems. We have to consider legal and professional restriction, agency mandate, client authorization, and professional values. As an example for legal and professional restriction an advocacy can be tempted to discredit another person with verbal or written attacks. If what the advocacy is saying is wrong or cause the person harm they can be sued. So as an advocate we have to remind professional at all times. So we have to be very careful not to cross those bounds.

Agency mandate is advocate who work for agencies and they are limited by their rules on what they could or could not do. So this might be hard for the advocate to fight for that client because of certain rules they may have. It would be hard for me personally...
